Couples and Family Counseling

Couples and Family Counseling

Couples counseling is a professional psychological support process aimed at understanding communication problems, emotional disconnection, and conflicts experienced by partners in romantic relationships or marriages, strengthening healthy bonds, and restoring relational balance. The goal of this process is not to position one partner as right or wrong, but to understand together how the relationship functions, the recurring interaction patterns, and the underlying emotional needs. During counseling, couples learn to express themselves more openly and healthily, listen to each other more effectively, and develop more functional ways of coping with problems. Conducted with scientifically based approaches, this process aims to create a relationship that is more secure, balanced, and fulfilling.

Family counseling is a psychological support process that addresses relationships among family members as a whole and works on family communication, roles, and boundaries. Parent child conflicts, adolescent related challenges, the divorce process, loss and grief, changes in family roles, or intergenerational conflicts are evaluated within this scope. While each individual’s experience is important in family counseling, the primary focus is the overall functioning of the family system. The aim is to strengthen balance within the family, help members feel more understood and secure, and support healthy relationship patterns. Conducted within the framework of confidentiality and ethical principles, this process contributes to building stronger and more functional family bonds.

When family counseling is needed, and depending on the therapist’s professional evaluation, family members may sometimes be included in the therapy process together with the couple, based on the source of the difficulty. Additionally, when family related problems also involve children, sessions may be conducted with the participation of parents, children, and other family members, again in line with the therapist’s assessment.

Couples and family counseling are professional psychological support processes aimed at understanding relational difficulties, strengthening communication, and rebuilding healthy bonds. These services are not only sought when problems arise, but can also be preferred to maintain, improve, and enrich relationships.

In these counseling processes, individuals are not addressed separately; rather, relationships and interactions are considered as a whole. The aim is not to find someone to blame, but to recognize recurring patterns that strain the relationship and develop more functional communication strategies. Difficulties experienced in romantic relationships, marriages, parent child relationships, life transitions, or family roles are addressed within a safe and confidential framework. Instead of focusing on short term solutions, the counseling process aims to foster sustainable, healthy, and fulfilling relationship skills in the long term. As in individual counseling, couples and family counseling sessions can be conducted face to face or online.
